With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
Arrive in Gettysburg early on Saturday afternoon and head straight to the Gettysburg BBQ Festival for BBQ samplings, a BBQ competition, BBQ food vendors, live music, a kid’s zone and a craft beer garden by Appalachian Brewing Company! Spend your afternoon indulging in some good old fashioned American food and beer. After the festival, grab a drink in town and catch some live music. Stay in a historic accommodation to round out your patriotic weekend.
Start your morning with a delicious brunch at one of these amazing spots. Then, head to the Gettysburg Heritage Center where living history demonstrations are held throughout the summer. Explore the Gettysburg Heritage Center Museum or walk over to Soldiers’ National Cemetery to honor the men that died in the Battle of Gettysburg.
Grab a bite to eat and then do some sight seeing at Gettysburg National Military Park. You can do a self-guided tour, or tour the battlefield by horse, carriage, Segway or scooter – just to name a few. Recharge with dinner at a historic restaurant, and then sign up for a ghost tour of the town – deemed to be one of the most haunted towns in America.
Spend your morning shopping downtown, or perhaps you’d prefer a walk through nature at Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve. Whatever you decide to do, make sure you’re back in town for the Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies in the afternoon. This Gettysburg parade is a holiday tradition for many and one of the oldest continuing parades in the country. And if you stick around town until the evening, you can catch the first night of the One Hundred Nights of Taps series this season at Soldiers’ National Cemetery.
After an amazing weekend, we know you’ll be eager to plan your next trip to Gettysburg for one of these patriotic experiences!
