A Solo Trip to Gettysburg

Reflect in the historical small-town of Gettysburg with a solo travel adventure that will leave you refreshed and inspired.

Day 1

Reflect in the historical small-town of Gettysburg with a solo travel adventure that will leave you refreshed and inspired.

The best way to begin your solo trip is with a little indulgence. If you’re staying downtown, you have plenty of places within walking distance to choose from.

For a hearty classic, head to One Lincoln Food & Spirits and order their Maryland Crab Macaroni & Cheese.

If Irish cuisine is more your style, Garryowen Irish Pub is the place for you. Order the Shepherd’s Pie - their own family recipe from Ireland. Stick around for awhile and catch some live music at the upstairs bar.

If a sweet treat is what you crave, The Pub & Restaurant serves up slices of cake bigger than your head! Andes Mint, New York Crunch Cheesecake, New Orleans Bourbon St. Pecan Pie, Chocolate Peanut Butter Madnesss… that’s just the beginning of their decadent dessert menu. You may even have to come back the next day to try another!

Day 2

Begin your day with a sunrise hike on the battlefield. It’s truly humbling to walk on the same hallowed grounds as the soldiers over 150 years ago and to imagine the strength and courage they showed while in Gettysburg. If you’d like a guided tour, try a horseback tour with a Licensed Battlefield Guide for a unique perspective.

It's lunchtime! If you’re looking for some company while you eat, hop on a Savor Gettysburg Food Tour. Sample some of the best cuisine in the area while exploring historic downtown Gettysburg. Take note of some shops and museums that you may want to come back to and explore on your own.

In the evening, laugh, ponder and reflect with a show at the Majestic Theater or Gettysburg Community Theatre. Choose from live performances, musical entertainment and independent movies – the great thing about solo travel is it’s completely up to you to decide.

Day 3

Before departing for home, get creative with a class at the Adams County Arts Council or Board & Brush Creative Studio. Learn a new skill or work on your existing ones.

If you prefer the kitchen to a canvas, check out Hollabaugh Bros. Inc. Fruit Farm and Market or Oyler’s Organic Farms & Market. Both offer cooking classes instructing you on how to whip up tasty dishes with fresh ingredients from the farm.

This mix of culinary, art and foodie experiences will give you just a taste of what Gettysburg has to offer. Come back and dive deeper into each!
