Plan Your Gettysburg Trip

Adams County Wine Trail

By Paige Neidig – What makes a perfect wine trail? Lots of stops close together, a scenic drive and fantastic wines, of course. In the heart of Adams County, Pa., you’ll find all of the makings for a perfect wine trail.

To make it even better, your drive time will be spent meandering through fruitful orchards and rolling hillsides of authentic Adams County, seeing historic landmarks along the way to the four vineyards and three tasting rooms that make up the Adams County Wine Trail. Please remember, don’t drink and drive. Designated drivers, or taking an Uber, are recommended. Take a look at these seven stops on our Adams County Wine Trail!

Jack’s Hard Cider

The first thing you’ll notice about Jack’s Hard Cider is its amazing views. The tasting room sits atop a hill in Biglerville, Pa. overlooking the bountiful vineyards below. Known for their Abe’s Apple Wine and Devils Den Red, these historic names are representative of the notorious events that took place in nearby Gettysburg. Hauser regularly offers live musical entertainment throughout the year.

Boyer Cellars

Boyer Cellars‘ tasting room is located in Boyer Nurseries’ garden shop in Biglerville, Pa. It offers a variety of wines made by Great Shoals Winery. The new tasting room is not only beautiful on the inside, but is complete with a wrap-around porch with great views of the accompanying nursery and neighboring countryside. You’ll be inspired to pick out a natural treasure from the nursery to bring home with you.

Reid’s Winery

The next stop is Reid’s Winery in nearby Orrtanna, Pa. Catch a glimpse of the barreling room right on the property at Reid’s. If you’re beginning to get hungry, enjoy a picnic lunch at one of their picnic tables located alongside their vineyards. Vibrant flowers line the property, adding to its already gorgeous landscape. You can usually catch live music at the home winery, or at Reid’s Cider House in Downtown Gettysburg. At both locations, you can also sample their tasty hard ciders.

Halbrendt Vineyard & Winery

You will really go deep in Adams County to reach Halbrendt Vineyard & Winery. At the end of a long and windy driveway, you’ll find Halbrendt’s tasting room. Their wines are often enjoyed on an adorable patio just outside of the tasting room. However, if you venture just a little bit further, you’ll find picnic tables scattered alongside rows of grapes in their vineyards. This more intimate setting is perfect to share your favorite bottle with the one you love. Halbrendt also has a winery outlet in Downtown Gettysburg where you can purchase their delicious wines.

Adams County Winery

Just a short drive away is Adams County Winery. Adams County Winery offers free tastings in their Civil War era barn. A new addition to the winery is the Terrace Bistro, specializing in wood-fired pizzas. Savor your pizza and wine pairing on the patio, or in the beautiful garden in the center of the property. Adams County Winery hosts a number of festivals throughout the year with signature drinks and special entertainment. You can also sample their wines at their tasting room in Downtown Gettysburg.

Knob Hall Winery

Next, make your way to Downtown Gettysburg and relax in Knob Hall Winery’s trendy tasting room. Board games line the bar overlooking the busy streets of the town of Gettysburg. Sit back and stay for a while, sipping wine and chatting with friends. Knob Hall offers fun classes like wine yoga and terrarium making workshops.

Buddy Boy Winery

Nestled in Old Gettysburg Village on Baltimore Street, you’ll find Buddy Boy’s tasting room. In this country atmosphere, you’ll find plenty of wine selections and cute wine accessories to bring home with you. Buddy Boy offers five free tastings with each visit, so there’s no excuse to finding the perfect wine for your palate. They also serve wine slushies!

Visit each stop along this Adams County Wine Trail, or just pick a few – you’ll find a unique tasting experience at each winery. Which is your favorite winery in Adams County?
