Adams County Pie Trail

If Adams County had a signature dessert, it would be pie. If you want to eat like a local, make your way through this pie trail on your next trip to the area.

Whether you’re craving sweet or savory, don’t worry – this trail includes both. While there really are endless pies to try in Adams County, here are eight places to get you started!

Dunlap’s

Enjoy casual family dining at Dunlap’s and take this tip from us: don’t pass on dessert. Dunlap’s offers a variety of homemade seasonal desserts, including rotating mile-high meringue pies. You may see chocolate meringue, coconut meringue or lemon meringue, depending on when you visit. While all of their pies are simply decadent, the made-from-scratch meringue steals the show. And if you want a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re made, check out our video here.

Appalachian Brewing Company

You can go for the beer, you can go for the dessert, or you can go for both. Appalachian Brewing Company’s s’mores pie features a graham cracker crust, toasty marshmallows and wait for it – a stout beer infused chocolate mousse center. They use their flagship Chocolate Avenue stout to produce the creamy, rich chocolate portion of the s’mores pie.

Dobbin House

Visit the Dobbin House to enjoy authentic historic dining, delicious fare and mouthwatering homemade desserts. Their homemade pecan pie is rightfully a customer favorite. Their recommendation? Enjoy it a la mode. If you’re up for it, order a slice of their homemade, deep dish apple pie while you’re there, too.

Crumb and Get It

There’s a good chance that you’ll leave with more than one goodie at Crumb and Get It, located in the heart of downtown Hanover, Pa., but may we suggest trying their seasonal, homemade pies. You won’t get a slice of pie, but even better – your own personal-sized pie to enjoy. Like everything at Crumb and Get It, the pies are made from scratch, and change seasonally. In the summer, enjoy fresh berry or peach pies, and in the fall, you’ll find pumpkin or apple.

Garryowen Irish Pub

For those looking for something on the savory side, try Garryowen Irish Pub’s shepherd’s pie. The authentic dish uses a family recipe from Garryowen’s owner, a recipe from County Armagh in Ireland. The savory pie features ground beef and vegetables in a rich gravy and is topped with lightly browned mashed potatoes.

Gettysburg Eddie’s

For all the peanut butter lovers out there – don’t miss Gettysburg Eddie’s homemade peanut butter pie. Your peanut butter craving will undoubtedly be satisfied with this creamy and decadent dessert. Even better – it’s topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and crushed peanuts.

Farnsworth House

Another savory pie to indulge in – The Farnsworth House Inn’s game pie. The house specialty includes turkey, duck and pheasant; mushrooms, bacon lardoons, red currant jelly and wild rice. It’s topped with a flaky crust and cooked until perfectly golden. This historically inspired dish matches the historic atmosphere at the Farnsworth House.

Countryside Markets

At Adams County’s countryside markets, not only can you enjoy stunning scenery and farm-fresh produce, you can also enjoy homemade baked goods, including authentic Adams County pies. Head to Hollabaugh Bros. Fruit Farm & Market, McDannell’s Fruit Farm & Market, The Historic Round Barn & Farm Market, The Harvest Barn Country Market and Sandoe’s Fruit Market where you’ll find whole homemade pies that you can take home with you and that change with the seasons.
