Summertime Sippin’ – Summer Cocktails You Must Try in Gettysburg

Gettysburg’s craft beverage scene includes some amazing locally produced wine, beer, cider, spirits and yes, unique, tasty cocktails. Many area restaurants are featuring cocktails this summer that’ll refresh and cool you off and many highlight locally sourced ingredients, too. If you’re looking to explore Gettysburg’s craft beverage scene, and you want a drink that’ll cool you down and chill you out, try one of these delicious summertime cocktails.

Summer Crush

One Lincoln’s latest cocktail creation just screams summer. Summer crush is a tempting mix of citrus vodka, sweet Midori, fresh orange juice and pineapple juice, a dash of Sprite for bubbles and is garnished with a slice of orange and a cherry. The color and taste of the drink make it the perfect seasonal sipper. Enjoy Summer Crush while dining outdoors at One Lincoln, right in the heart of Gettysburg’s historic Lincoln Square.

Cannon in the Orchard

While you’re in Gettysburg, if you are looking for a period-style dining experience with great history, food and beverages, be sure to stop at the historic Dobbin House Tavern. Cool off in the Dobbin House’s Springhouse Tavern with their awesome summer cocktail, Cannon in the Orchard. The drink starts with a shot each of perfectly spiced Cannon Blast rum (the cannon) and tasty peach schnapps (the orchard). It’s topped off with luscious pineapple and cranberry juices and served with ice to make one delicious, refreshing drink.

Cannon Ball Float

If you are in need of something extra cool and refreshing, try the Farnsworth House Inn Restaurant’s Cannon Ball Float cocktail. The drink starts off with homemade vanilla ice cream from Gettysburg’s Cone Sweet Cone, is spiked with your choice of liquor and is topped off with a soda of your choice – make it classic and go with root beer or make it tropical with orange or pineapple soda. If you have kids with you, ask for one for them too, just minus the alcohol. Enjoy the beverage in the Farnsworth House’s quaint outdoor beer garden or cool off inside at Sweney’s Tavern.

Summer Cocktails at The Parrot

When it comes to summertime cocktails, The Parrot is not messing around. Visit the restaurant and ask for the Cucumber Lime Smash, which features fresh basil and lime juice, cucumber water and gin; the Pomegranate Sparkler, a combination of pomegranate liquor, pomegranate juice and champagne; the Lemon Blueberry Fizz, a delicious mix of blueberry vodka, fresh lemon juice, blueberries, club soda and simple syrup; or the Very Berry Cosmo featuring pomegranate vodka, orange liquor, fresh lime juice, cranberry juice and muddled blueberries. Your taste buds will be tantalized by these awesome summer cocktails.

Peach Sangria

Take a trip to the gorgeous Adams County countryside and visit Hickory Bridge Farm Restaurant. There, enjoy home-style, made-from-scratch food and pair it with their fresh peach sangria, all in a beautifully restored barn-turned-restaurant. The sangria starts with sweet white Moscato wine, then is flavored with delicious peach daiquiri mix and peach schnapps. The drink is garnished with fresh peach slices and refreshing mint leaves. An evening spent at Hickory Bridge Farm Restaurant, enjoying dinner and a drink, is a perfect authentic Adams County evening.

The 1757

You don’t want to miss The Historic Fairfield Inn’s new signature cocktail – The 1757. It’s their creative take on a bourbon smash, which was a classic Civil War era drink. The 1757 features delectable and refreshing flavors of lemon and mint, making it ideal for hot summer days, or really, any day! Be sure to stop by the Historic Fairfield Inn – one of the Gettysburg area’s most historic buildings – and enjoy lunch, dinner, Sunday brunch and of course, The 1757 cocktail.

Lavender Lemonade

One of Mason Dixon Distillery’s most popular signature cocktails is the perfect, thirst-quenching summer drink. Fresh, perfectly tart lemon juice is balanced with slightly sweet and pleasantly floral lavender syrup. Both are combined with Mason Dixon Distillery’s house-made, small batch vodka. It’s hard to have just one Lavender Lemonade! Enjoy it indoors and pair it with their tasty handcrafted small plates, or step outside and enjoy their new, charming courtyard.

Be sure to explore Gettysburg’s many downtown restaurants and wineries, where weekly drink specials are always popping up. Visit Reid’s Orchard and Winery’s downtown Cider House, where fresh sangrias are featured weekly and Knob Hall Winery’s downtown tasting room for their weekly Open Mic Night, held Wednesday evenings and featuring cocktail specials made from Mason Dixon Distillery spirits.
