Adams County organizations announce new campaign

‘Advantage Adams’ promotes resources to new and existing businesses

Realizing that missions often overlap and efforts benefit one another, three local organizations have created a new campaign, “Advantage Adams” – a collaborative effort to help existing businesses grow and plant seeds for new businesses to be established in the county.

The three community organizations include the Adams County Economic Development Corporation (ACEDC), Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce, and Destination Gettysburg – the official destination marketing organization of Adams County.

Advantage Adams is the first collaborative marketing campaign to create awareness of Adams County outside the community and connect the resources of the three organizations with businesses looking to grow.

“Bringing in new businesses and new product is certainly a boost to tourism,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “The more successful that business is in Adams County, the greater that tourism will benefit through new experiences for our visitors.”

“ACEDC is excited to be an integral partner in the Advantage Adams campaign,” said Robin Fitzpatrick, President of ACEDC. “A healthy and prosperous community begins with partnerships such as this, where leaders pull together their resources to ensure success for the greater good.”

The campaign stemmed out of a recently formed partnership between the three organizations and the Adams County Planning Office, Adams County Commissioners and the Gettysburg campus of Harrisburg Area Community College.

“This partnership is a unique opportunity for all of these community partners to work together to support our business community, and it’s important for the future of economic development in the county,” said Sherri Clayton, Director of the Adams County Planning Office. “We all want the same thing – communities where everyone can live, work, and play. We are excited about this marketing opportunity and believe it can serve as a catalyst to help us achieve that ultimate goal.”

In the works for the past several months, this partnership has set out to leverage the county’s strengths with economic development using research conducted by the county to identify opportunities for sustainability and growth.

The goals for the partnership are:

  • To create a vision for economic development that includes appropriate locations and industries.
  • To develop county-wide, consistent marketing, business growth and business attraction.
  • To develop a pathway to product development.
  • Outline a strategy for implementation.

As part of the collaborative efforts, ACEDC will first work with the Adams County Office of Planning to evaluate research and re-identify appropriate locations and industries for expansion and recruitment – starting the pathway to product development. Part of this effort will also include meeting with municipalities throughout Adams County to educate leaders on the importance of economic development, to understand the goals and challenges of each municipality and to help them understand the resources that exist to make their communities stronger and support local business.

The Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce and Harrisburg Area Community College’s Gettysburg campus will work to engage existing businesses and the county workforce to develop the skills and environment needed for success.

And Destination Gettysburg will use its resources to lead the Advantage Adams marketing efforts to both existing and prospective businesses to Adams County.

“The Board of Commissioners could not be more excited about this coordinated marketing campaign,” said Commissioner Marty Qually. “Private business retention and recruitment in Adams County are enhanced by the efforts of our public partners. Alone, each of our public partners are valuable, but together we can achieve so much more. This combined marketing effort will be a qualitative advantage for our businesses now and into the future.”
