Yes we have a famous battlefield to tour by car, bicycle, horseback, and even on foot but we boast a wealth of activities beyond those historic acres.
From historic taverns to ethnic cuisine, farm-to-table dining to unique edibles, the tastes of Gettysburg are sure to please every palate.
With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
Destination Gettysburg has a launched a new app to showcase Adams County, Pa.’s variety of experiences for visitors and local residents alike. The app is intended for visitors to use both before and during their trip - highlighting attractions, lodging, dining and entertainment, shopping, discounts and maps to help visitors navigate the region.
Since its launch in late January, the app already has more than 500 downloads and is available through Apple and Google Play.
“The purpose behind creating the app is to increase engagement among our visitors while they are here in our destination and at home,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “While it will complement our other tools such as our annual Gettysburg Travel Planner and Destination Gettysburg website, this app is a great way for our visitors to be connected to the region no matter where they are.”
The app allows Destination Gettysburg to send push notifications based on geography, meaning that messages offering discounts or news about an event could be targeted only to visitors while they are in Adams County. But, messages that are broader in scope and less timely in nature can be sent to all app users or in a specific location.
“Our goal from the beginning was to create a travel app that wouldn’t simply be downloaded when a visitor arrived in the Gettysburg area and immediately deleted when they left town,” said Flowers. “That’s why we developed the app in a way that motivated subscribers to connect with us about events, deals and discounts as well as other news about what’s happening in the area to encourage these visitors to return.”
The app provides direct links to Destination Gettysburg’s social media channels, blogs, itineraries and travel videos. Each of the organization’s 300 members are provided with free travel listings of their businesses similar to Destination Gettysburg’s website and other materials.
The app allows users to search for businesses based on categories such as dining and lodging or attractions and shopping, find out more information and locate those members with directions and contact information.
Users can also plan their trip ahead of time by reviewing itineraries on the app and marking their favorite locations to visit when they arrive into town.
“Putting information in front of travelers is key to any destination” said Flowers. “This app puts relevant, timely and targeted information at their fingertips as they look for new ways to experience Gettysburg and Adams County.”
In addition to leisure travelers, the app is also a great tool for group travelers, meeting planners and students who visit the Gettysburg region.
