Sweet & Savory Satisfactions

The Adams County Pour Tour may be a craft beverage trail at heart, but along the way you'll find that many of the stops have mouthwatering food pairings too. Follow along for this satisfying mix of sweet and savory pairings along the trail.

Stop #1: Adams County Winery
Order Recommendation: Wild Mushroom Pizza paired with Tears of Gettysburg Wine
Enjoy a sweet and savory lunch at the Terrace Bistro. Although their menu has several wood-fired pizza and appetizer options, here our order recommendation is to pair their Wild Mushroom Pizza with their hallmark Tears of Gettysburg wine. This sweet white wine has a fruit forward jammy flavor with notes of pear and citrus and matches nicely with the Mushroom Pizza made with hand tossed dough and topped with ricotta cheese and extra virgin olive oil, seasonal wild mushrooms, crushed black pepper, sea salt and a balsamic glaze.

Stop #2: Thirsty Farmer Brew Works
Order Recommendation: Apple Cider Donuts with Hazelnut Brown Ale
Just 3.5 miles down the road from Adams County Winery, dessert awaits. This “adult” version of coffee and donuts is the perfect finisher to your pizza and wine. The delicious and warm cinnamon-sugar donuts at the brewery are just enough sweet to not overpower the rich flavors of the Hazelnut Brown Ale, which features notes of coffee, smoked malt, and a semi-sweet finish of hazelnut.

Optional Detour: Allow your food to settle and take a detour to Lincoln Square before continuing along the sweet and savory trail. From boutique shopping to historical museums and more tastings, there’s plenty to keep you busy until dinnertime.

Stop #3: Fourscore Beer Co.
Order Recommendation: Fourscore Burger with Hop Hat IPA
For dinner, you can’t go wrong with a stop at Gettysburg’s newest brewpub. Pair the Fourscore Burger with their house IPA for all things savory. The 6-ounce patty is a blend of local beef and sausage topped with your choice of manchego, cheddar or point reyes blue cheese on a whole oat roll. Hop Hat is a 6.6% ABV house IPA brewed with British pale malt and a healthy dose of flakes wheat. Generously hopped with Citra, Comet and Azacca and then double dry hopped with the same leading to wonderful aroma and flavors of pink grapefruit, pineapple and tropical fruit.

Stop #4: Appalachian Brewing Company – Battlefield
Order Recommendation: Stout Float
Just a quarter of a mile down the road from Fourscore Beer Co. is Appalachian Brewing Company – Battlefield. For a sweet finisher, we recommend their Stout Float. This representation of the classic Irish Dry Stout has a smooth roast flavor due to the use of specially roasted barley. It pairs great with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the form of a “root beer” float.

Other stops that dish up great food with their drinks include Mason Dixon Distillery and Boyer Cellars. Swing by these locations for another hearty day on the trail.
