Yes we have a famous battlefield to tour by car, bicycle, horseback, and even on foot but we boast a wealth of activities beyond those historic acres.
From historic taverns to ethnic cuisine, farm-to-table dining to unique edibles, the tastes of Gettysburg are sure to please every palate.
With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
Bring your group to Civil War Tails to give them real history with a fun twist. Attention to detail makes our dioramas as accurate as possible, with one exception – our soldiers are cats! With each cat-soldier representing one soldier on the battlefield, you can see what the action would have looked like 150 years ago. Each diorama portrays a specific point in time and tells the stories of the featured event and the individuals involved.
Your group will learn about the courage of Medal of Honor recipients, the desperation of cavalry jumping off a 20-foot cliff, the pluck of the tiny USS Monitor facing off against “the horrid creation of a nightmare,” and much more. Students and adults alike will enjoy finding the escape tunnel, peeking inside the ironclad ships and finding the one dog in the museum.
Whether they are historians or novices, adults or students, your group is sure to leave with a better understanding of what the battles looked like – and an appreciation for the courage, perseverance, and dedication of the people who fought, lived and died during the Civil War.
Call us for group rates and to schedule a visit. If your group comes outside of regular museum hours, we can offer not only a personal guided tour with one of the creators of the dioramas, but also a workshop on how to make the soldiers and features of the dioramas!
