Our program will examine three Gettysburg buildings that were significant to the community but have been lost to time. Presenters will offer a detailed look at the locations and historical significance of these lost treasures. Sites to be discussed include the “Colored Elks” Lodge in Gettysburg, the old Adams County Courthouse and the Samuel McCreary house on Baltimore Street.

Jean Green is a lifelong resident of Gettysburg and her ancestors have lived in Adams County since the 1890s. She attended Gettysburg Area High School and the Lear Siegler Institute, raised a family of three, and has a passion for history that started over twenty years ago. Jean is currently finishing a book that relates to her ancestors’ journey from slavery to Gettysburg. Jean is currently a member of the ACHS Board of Trustees, and is church historian of the Gettysburg United Methodist Church.

Lisa Malandra-Shower is a lifelong student of the American Civil War specializing in the role played by civilians during the Battle of Gettysburg and its aftermath. Lisa has given extensive tours of Gettysburg and is a research assistant at the Adams County Historical Society. She’s also the co-author of a historical fiction novel, A Quiet Town No More, which deals with the experiences of area residents during the Civil War period.

Jane Malone is a former Frederick County public school history teacher. In her retirement, she became a Gettysburg Licensed Town Historian and Guide. When she retired from guiding, she joined the Board of Trustees of the Adams County Historical Society.
