The walks held between April 24 and June 12 are FREE and open to everyone. Dogs on leashes are welcome, except at the June 12 orchard walk. Wear good walking shoes and bring a bottle of water. Walks are held rain or shine (except for thunderstorms and severe weather). Please call 337-4137 OR check Healthy Adams County's Facebook page to check for cancellation. A detailed walking map/route will be provided at each walk. Registration is 4:45-6:15pm, unless noted otherwise.
April 24, Gettysburg National Military Park - Culp's Hill and Spangler’s Spring: Park at Gettysburg Area Middle School, 37 Lefever St. Choose the loop length that is best for you. The walk can include East Confederate Drive for added length. Trail is 1.5 to 3 miles, paved and frequently hilly.
May 1, Hoffman Homes, 815 Orphanage Rd, Littlestown: From Gettysburg, take Rt 97 south for about 5 miles, turn right on Hoffman Home Rd. Go two miles, turn right on Orphanage Rd. Turn left at the entrance “Culinary and Educational Services”. Take in the lovely horse pastures. Walk is about 2 miles, mostly paved or gravel trail, relatively flat.
May 8, Gettysburg Outlets, 1863 Gettysburg Village Drive: Park near the Pepperidge Farm store on the south side. There will be a drawing for an Outlet Prize. Walk is 2 miles of relatively flat sidewalk and roadways.
May 15, Eisenhower Farm and Children’s Day: Park on W. Confederate Ave at the picnic area south of Emmitsburg Road and walk to, and then around the Eisenhower Farm on gravel roads. History education and children’s activity and snack will take place. The walk is about two miles, paved and gravel roads, a little hilly.
May 22, Oakside Park, 2880 Table Rock Road, Biglerville: Park in the gravel lot behind the Chapter House office. Bring your leashed canine companion to enjoy the Doggie Park inside Oakside Park. Dogs must be cleaned up after. Support the SPCA with your donation of dog or cat food or treats. This walk is about two miles, mostly stone/gravel trail, some paved, relatively flat, very scenic.
Monday, May 27, FREE 5K and Come Walk With Me”, Wyndham Hotel, Gateway Complex, 8 am: Arrive 15 minutes early to register. Race/walk kicks off from the Wyndham Hotel in the Gateway Complex, 95 Presidential Circle, Gettysburg. Lots of door prizes and health and fitness displays. “Sign-in” as a PFTF walker. Medals for all children who complete the three miles. This walk is 3.1 miles, paved roads, some gentle hills.
May 29, Gettysburg Rec Park: Bring the kids and park at the Charlie Sterner building at the park, 545 Long Lane. Walk the new GIL trail, across Middles Street, then detour to Kennie’s for a healthy trail snack sample, return and then walk the 1-mile Biser trail as many times as you like. The walk is about two miles (or more), flat and paved.
June 5, Blue and Grey Airfield, 360 Confederate Cavalry Avenue: Located off of Route 30 east of Route 15. Weather permitting, the Blue and Grey will fly their remote control airplanes while we walk. The walk will be out and back along Cavalry Field Road, Confederate Cavalry Avenue and Gregg Avenue. This walk is about three miles, flat, road surfaces.
June 12, Hollabaugh’s Orchard, 545 Carlisle Rd, Biglerville: Enjoy beautiful Adams County scenery by walking the orchard lanes of the farm. Follow a trail guide to learn about what you see. Sorry, no dogs allowed on this walk. This walk is almost two miles, mostly gravel roads, a little hilly.
Friday, June 21, SpiriTrust Lutheran The Longest Day Walk: Please join us in honoring our loved ones with Alzheimer’s and their caregivers. We will be walking our .75 mile walking trail from sunrise to sunset to show support for those who live the longest day every day. Join us anytime between 6am and 8pm on the walking trail in front of our main building. You can walk one lap or 10!
