Yes we have a famous battlefield to tour by car, bicycle, horseback, and even on foot but we boast a wealth of activities beyond those historic acres.
From historic taverns to ethnic cuisine, farm-to-table dining to unique edibles, the tastes of Gettysburg are sure to please every palate.
With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
A great weekend discovery and a must see for families! Dr. Willen & Company and The Citizens of Gettysburg will be onsite to help you discover the stories of the soldiers, surgeons and civilians of Gettysburg – just minutes from the battlefield. The living history groups will portray a Union surgeon, civilian nurse and hospital steward discussing Civil War medicine - a very accurate portrayal of Civil War medical personnel to include an expert explanation of all phases of Civil War medical care. The Civilians of Gettysburg will recreate the experience of Civil War era civilians, attired in authentic period Victorian clothing and provide “first person impressions.”
The site is open in summer on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only through August 12. Access is via shuttle from the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center. Shuttle tickets (Adults $6/Youth $2) are available at the ticket counter or by calling 877-874-2478.
