Yes we have a famous battlefield to tour by car, bicycle, horseback, and even on foot but we boast a wealth of activities beyond those historic acres.
From historic taverns to ethnic cuisine, farm-to-table dining to unique edibles, the tastes of Gettysburg are sure to please every palate.
With adventures to suit every budget, Gettysburg and Adams County businesses offer plenty of packages to help visitors create their dream vacations.
Every year, more than 15,000 groups travel to Adams County, Pa., to enjoy the wealth of experiences the destination offers year-round, including history, agriculture, shopping and events. These groups are a vital component of the county’s tourism industry, which annually pumps more than $660 million into the local economy and supports over 7,500 jobs for local residents.
These visits by group travelers are built through relationships that Destination Gettysburg and the Adams County tourism community has built with group travel leaders and tour operators – those who plan trips for students, church groups, military veterans and senior citizens, among others.
On March 30, Adams County will take center stage during the Maryland Motorcoach Association’s Annual Marketplace – where the team from Destination Gettysburg, as well as dozens of businesses and organizations in the area – will showcase the destination to more than 500 group travel leaders and tour operators through tours, expos and other networking events.
“Destination Gettysburg is excited to bring the Maryland Motorcoach Association to Adams County,” said Norris Flowers, President of Destination Gettysburg. “This is an incredible opportunity for this destination to show the group travel industry the variety of experiences that the county offers group travelers – everything from history and heritage, to our emerging food and craft beverage scene, great shopping and outdoor recreation.”
The marketplace will include a morning expo where businesses and organizations from Adams County will join other destinations throughout the region to network with group travel leaders and tour operators at the Wyndham Gettysburg Hotel. Afterward, these group travel representatives will take part in one of 10 tours that will showcase different aspects of Adams County tourism.
Subjects of tours include Civil War battlefield and civilian tours, shopping and wine tasting, President Lincoln’s visit to Gettysburg, the Underground Railroad and Destination Gettysburg’s Authentic Adams County theme which highlights unique experiences throughout the area.
“These travel groups already bring hundreds of trips to Adams County every year,” said Flowers. “This is our chance to show them first-hand the abundance of opportunities to enjoy our region – many of which have been created or expanded in the past few years.”
Destination Gettysburg’s sales team works year-round to build relationships with group travel leaders and tour operators, but an event such as the Maryland Motorcoach Association Marketplace gives Adams County a unique opportunity to showcase its destination, added Flowers.
Destination Gettysburg, the official destination management organization, markets Gettysburg – Adams County as a premier travel destination, producing a positive economic impact.
