Gettysburg is proud to showcase four distinctive wineries, all of which have a tasting room location within our downtown area coupled with a handcrafted artisanal food experience at Food 101. Adams County is well known for its agritourism. Vineyards and family farms grace our backyards and represent the early settlers who cultivated and nurtured these fields since the early 1800’s. Join our local chefs for a colorful walk through Gettysburg's Farmer's Market, where they will take you through the market and show you how to shop like a chef. This dynamic downtown experience is filled with inspiration coupled with chef's tips and techniques. Then it's on to the kitchen for a hands-on cooking class where the chef will teach you how to turn the bounty from the market into creative and delicious dishes, paired with local wines. The menus are created based on seasonal ingredients, all 100% delicious and fun and easy to prepare.
"NEW" FIELD TO FORK AGRITOURISM EXPERIENCE - Our “Field-to-Fork Agritourism Experience” Tour is the latest in a series of food tours. This tour is perfect for experienced foodies and those just expanding their interest in farm-grown food and cooking.”
This tour is designed for a limited group of 14 guests to ensure that everyone has a full and personal experience. Join us for an all-day journey traveling the historic roads of Adams County together to spend time on local farms, harvest seasonal produce, sample local wine and cider, hand pick local farm products and work with a local chef to turn your harvest into a fresh, delicious meal. We can’t wait to show you all that our Gettysburg farmlands have to offer!
The tour includes a stop at a local dairy where Alpine goats roam on open pasture and participants will learn about how artisan goat cheese is made; and an orchard where guests will harvest fruit fresh from its pick-your-own orchard as well as a tasting of local wine and cider. This new experience also includes harvesting herbs and vegetables, learning how Shitake mushrooms are grown and how bees are raised, to collecting eggs from free range chickens.
At the final destination, a local chef will combine all of the products collected throughout the day into a fabulous meal that will be served (weather-dependent) under the spreading arms of the farm's enormous maple tree as part of a truly rare and unique field-to-fork experience.
